Integrated approach for housing and multi-dimensional urban planning in Africa

Africa's urban population is projected to more than double by 2050, yet housing policy responses across the continent remain fragmented, insufficiently funded, and disconnected from broader urban systems. This lecture makes the case for an integrated approach that links spatial planning, infrastructure provision, livelihood development, and multi-actor financing into a coherent and scalable strategy. Drawing on the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University's applied research in territorial planning, it demonstrates how cities and national governments can move from reactive, siloed interventions to proactive, multi-dimensional urban development. The lecture argues that Africa's housing challenge is ultimately a governance challenge -and that better coordination, not more resources alone, is the critical missing ingredient.
