Local Leadership in Action - Applying the Housing and Human Security for All Model for Safer, More Inclusive Cities

This Voices from Cities session will highlight how cities are applying the Housing and Human Security for All model to place people at the center of housing strategies that strengthen safety, dignity, and resilience. As urban areas face inadequate housing, social exclusion, and rising community level vulnerabilities, local leaders are advancing integrated approaches that link housing with essential services, public spaces, mobility, and inclusive socio-economic opportunities. Anchored in core human security principles—people-centered, context-specific, multisectoral, and preventive—the session will illustrate how the model helps cities address overlapping risks and improve wellbeing. Urban actors increasingly recognize that housing is not only shelter, but a foundation for stability, social cohesion, and inclusion. By applying the model and coordinating across urban systems, cities can anticipate risks, strengthen resilience, and ensure no one is left behind. Through practical examples and dialogue with leaders and practitioners, the session will explore how cities translate national and global commitments into localized, actionable housing solutions guided by the Housing and Human Security for All model.
