Practical Toolkits for Housing Policy Innovation with a focus on Land, Finance & Inclusive Policy

Join us for an inspiring two-hour highly interactive training session addressing one of the most urgent challenges of our time: the global housing crisis. This session moves beyond conventional headlines and aims to provide the participants with learning opportunities to: 1) appraise the systemic failure to provide affordable housing, particularly for low income residents, that erodes human dignity, social cohesion, and economic stability worldwide; 2) develop an in-depth understanding of the underlying causes of the housing crisis and its physical, economic and environmental manifestations on the footprint of cities in countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and North America; 3) learn from a rich living library of case studies with examples and evidences of the housing crisis and solutions adopted. 4) acquire specific knowledge in housing finance & land policies. 5) to employ simple but effective toolkits to support the formulation of viable and innovative housing strategies. The training will confront the staggering reality of nearly two billion people currently living in inadequate housing conditions in slums, informal settlements and substandard neighborhoods. This is projected to grow given the inability of governments to design policies and housing strategies that deliver diversified housing options at scale, in suitable locations served by basic infrastructure and affordable to different social-economic segments of society. The initial part of the programme lays the ground for the core section of the training which focuses on skill development and the use of toolkits to support the formulation of policies and housing strategies. The final part of the training focuses on the formulation of suitable housing strategies that aim at resolving the shortage of adequate housing and constrained housing options available in the market and in government programmes. This will address the unlock of land supply, housing finance and shortcomings in the governance of the housing sector that adversely affect housing delivery systems. This will be achieved through the use toolkits in a dynamic and interactive learning environment where participants will engage in active exchange. By the end of this training session, participants will be able (a) to analyze the multidimensional drivers of the global housing crisis, (b) to assess its key impacts, and (c) to formulate strategies for inclusive and scaled-up housing solutions suitable to their context
