This networking event will convene Arab Member States and partners around a pivotal moment for the region: the midterm review of the New Urban Agenda (NUA). Building on the second cycle of voluntary national reporting (2022–2024) and the emerging Arab regional analysis, the session will shift the discussion from “monitoring progress” to using evidence to accelerate implementation—turning findings into policy reforms, investment priorities, and partnerships that can deliver inclusive, resilient urban development in line with the NUA and the 2030 Agenda. Led by the League of Arab States (LAS), the event will provide a structured space for Housing/Urban Development focal points and national experts to exchange experiences from preparing their NUA national reports, identify common bottlenecks, and discuss practical solutions. The discussion will spotlight major regional trends and shared challenges—such as urban expansion, affordable housing, mobility and connectivity, climate risks, urban economy and jobs, governance, and financing constraints—while giving particular attention to how countries can embed NUA commitments in national and local plans, including in contexts affected by economic, political, and security instability. Objectives of the event are to: Strengthen regional dialogue on the NUA midterm review as a moment for course correction and acceleration, not only reporting. Share practical lessons from national and regional reporting processes on data, indicators, stakeholder engagement, and institutional coordination—highlighting approaches that improve decision-making and implementation capacity. Identify common implementation gaps (technical, human, financial, and legislative) and discuss actionable remedies, including mechanisms for national–local alignment and multilevel governance. Discuss priority directions emerging from the regional analysis, including concrete areas where regional cooperation can add value (peer learning, tools, joint initiatives). Explore how LAS and Member States can advance follow-up actions after the event—agreeing next steps and partnership opportunities that support implementation over the coming period.
