This networking event will explore how social urbanism approaches grounded in human security can strengthen safety, inclusion, and resilience in informal settlements and vulnerable neighborhoods across the Global South. By bringing together practitioners from Colombia, Mexico, Lebanon, South Africa, and other contexts, the event will highlight how integrated territorial interventions, combining housing improvements, public space upgrades, mobility solutions, social services, and community participation, advance urban human security and contribute to more sustainable, inclusive cities. Using the human security lens, the event will examine how cities address intersecting risks linked to housing insecurity, social exclusion, socio environmental hazards, limited services, and weak governance. Speakers will demonstrate how people centered, context specific, and multi sectoral interventions can improve safety, reduce everyday risks, and expand opportunities for residents of informal or underserved neighborhoods. The session will highlight comparative experiences, such as Medellín’s social urbanism transformation, integrated neighborhood interventions in Mexico, community driven upgrading efforts in Lebanon, and resilience focused approaches in South Africa. Each example will show how community ownership, inclusive governance, and cross sector collaboration contribute to broader urban transformation and longterm stability. Designed as an interactive exchange, the event creates space for peer to peer dialogue, practical learning, and SouthSouth cooperation. Participants will share insights on planning tools, community engagement methods, and multi sectoral coordination mechanisms that support integrated and human security oriented approaches. Cities will be encouraged to reflect on challenges, identify replicable practices, and build connections with peers working at the intersection of safety, housing, and resilience. Intended outcomes include: Shared practical, adaptable solutions for strengthening human security in vulnerable neighborhoods. Stronger peer networks among Global South cities working on social urbanism and integrated territorial development. Contributions to global efforts to build safer, more inclusive, and resilient cities aligned with SDG 11 and the New Urban Agenda. The event offers a grounded, practice focused look at how social urbanism, guided by human security principles, can catalyze equitable urban transformation.
