Strengthening Sustainable Municipal Practice through University–Government Partnerships: Evidence from King Saud University and Ministry of Municipality and Housing

This session explores how university–government partnerships can strengthen municipal governance and improve housing and urban development outcomes by building institutional and professional capacity. Using the collaboration between King Saud University and the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing as a case study, it shows how applied education programs can directly support planning, coordination, and implementation in urban governance. The session presents evidence from executive education and training initiatives that enhance practitioner skills in urban planning, policy delivery, and housing-related governance. It argues that sustainable housing outcomes depend not only on finance and regulation, but also on the quality of institutional capacity and workforce development. The lecture positions university–government collaboration as a scalable model for strengthening housing-responsive governance and supporting more resilient and inclusive cities.
