Israel Pavilion

Israel is a dense and urbanized country, and with its high population growth rate and limited land reserves, it is projected to become one of the densest countries in the world. This requires creative solutions to efficiently utilize the use of land, accommodate the future development within cities, and preserve open spaces for future generations.

Looking into the future, more and more attention is being paid to urban regeneration, densification of existing fabrics, construction of mass transit systems, and the efficient use of land. This means that many existing neighborhoods will go through significant changes – and change is never easy, especially when it includes increasing density and lowering car dependency. Within this densifying reality, attention should also be paid to climate change, social considerations, heritage, and well-being. These values can co-exist. Yet, this synergy will not occur on its own. It has risks as much as it has opportunities, and at this pavilion, we aim to discuss ways to address this challenge.

The pavilion is a joint initiative of four government bodies that deal with urban development from different perspectives: Ministry of Construction and Housing, Israel Planning Administration, Israel Urban Renewal Authority, and Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage.
