Azmiu Housing Research Lab Designing Resilient Cities

The pavilion of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzMIU) is conceived as a living research laboratory, presenting how academic institutions can generate practical solutions for housing challenges in rapidly transforming urban environments. The exhibition explores the relationship between housing, climate resilience, and post-industrial urban transformation, with a particular focus on the Caspian region and cities undergoing structural change.
The pavilion will showcase selected diploma and research projects by architecture and urban planning students addressing issues such as climate-responsive housing, coastal resilience, regeneration of post-industrial territories, and sustainable urban morphology. These projects demonstrate how emerging architects interpret housing not only as a physical structure but as a social, environmental, and cultural system.
The exhibition will be complemented by a daily program of lectures, workshops, and short research presentations by faculty members, international experts, and graduate students. Topics include adaptive reuse of industrial heritage, climate-responsive urban form, housing in crisis recovery, and technology-based urban planning for coastal territories.
Interactive elements will allow visitors to participate in the research process. Guests will be invited to contribute short responses, drawings, and votes on housing challenges in their cities, creating a collective global map of housing risks and ideas. These contributions will become part of a growing archive documenting perspectives on housing from different regions of the world.
Through this combination of exhibition, dialogue, and participatory research, the AzMIU pavilion aims to demonstrate how universities can function as open platforms for knowledge exchange and innovation in the field of safe, resilient, and inclusive housing.
