Barwaqa Relief Organisation
Our exhibition centres on Climate Change and Resilient Communities, presenting BRO’s holistic vision for
adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and inclusive urban development. It is designed as an interactive space
where visitors can experience how communities across Africa are innovating to withstand climate shocks while
advancing sustainable livelihoods.
The content is structured around three interconnected pillars:
a) Community Empowerment: Showcasing youth and women-led initiatives in afforestation, climate-smart
agriculture, and urban greening. These grassroots actions highlight how local ownership and inclusive
participation strengthen resilience and sustainability.
b) Innovation for Resilience: Demonstrating practical models such as school botanical gardens, demonstration
boreholes, and forest bioeconomy concepts. These innovations link biodiversity conservation with livelihood
creation, offering replicable solutions for urban and peri-urban settings.
c) Coalition Building: Highlighting partnerships with UNEP, UNCCD, AU, SADC, and grassroots councils. This
pillar emphasizes how multi-level collaboration—spanning local communities to international
institutions—drives systemic change and credibility.
Visitors will engage with multimedia presentations, case studies, and interactive maps that illustrate how
climate adaptation and disaster risk awareness are embedded in everyday urban life. The exhibition also
integrates faith-based teaching and youth empowerment, underscoring the role of values and education in
shaping resilient communities.
By situating local experiences within global frameworks such as the New Urban Agenda and the Great Green
Wall, the booth underscores the urgency of climate action while offering practical, scalable solutions. It invites
dialogue on how resilience can be expanded through education, innovation, and coalition-driven advocacy,
ensuring that communities are not only protected but also empowered to thrive.
