Habitat International Coalition

Habitat Village Connecting community-led action for just and sustainable territories

As a collaborative initiative co-produced by diverse stakeholders, rooted in the CoHabitat Network and expanded through allied organisations, the Habitat Village advances rights-based, community-led approaches to the global housing crisis. Conceived as a shared and inclusive space, it brings together grassroots organisations, resident federations, and academics, advancing the right to housing, the right to the city, and people-led solutions to urban inequalities.
Building on the legacy of previous Habitat Villages at WUF11 and WUF12, it strengthens partnerships and supports collective strategies to prevent forced evictions, promote secure tenure, and advance the right to housing. It supports exchange, collaboration, and collective advocacy at and beyond WUF. It aligns with the New Urban Agenda and advances SDG localisation, particularly SDGs 5, 10, 11, 13 and 17 while reinforcing the Right to the City as a guiding framework.
The exhibition is organised around key thematic areas, including housing justice, co-production, community-led finance, climate justice, data sovereignty, financialisation, feminist approaches, and the commons, highlighting their interlinkages.
As in previous editions, Habitat Village at WUF13 will bring together partners across continents, facilitating cross-regional exchange and contributing to joint commitments, peer learning and shared advocacy agendas. Supporting organisations include the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies from Erasmus University Rotterdam, urbaMonde, International Institute for Environment and Development, Catalytic Communities, World Habitat and The Bartlett (UCL). Several CoHabitat Network members and allies will join activities in the booth, including the Global Platform for the Right to the City, Polis Institute, Slum Dwellers International, Media4Change, Rooftops Canada, Misereor, MOBA, Geres, Development Planning Unit (UCL).
