Baku Urban Week opens ahead of WUF13

Ahead of the thirteenth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), Baku Urban Week will take place in the Azerbaijani capital from 11 to 17 May 2026, bringing urban discussions closer to the city and its communities. Positioned as the culmination of the nationwide Azerbaijan Urban Campaign, the initiative will connect global conversations on sustainable urban development with Baku’s local urban context.

Held ahead of WUF13, Baku Urban Week will bring together government institutions, urban planners, academia, cultural figures, young innovators and the wider public through a series of events taking place across the city.
Activities will be hosted in a range of locations, including historic landmarks, cultural heritage sites and venues showcasing contemporary urban planning solutions. By activating spaces throughout Baku, the programme aims to create opportunities for residents and international visitors to engage directly with discussions on cities, housing and urban transformation.


Four thematic strands across the city
Baku Urban Week is conceived as an open platform for public participation and exchange, structured around four main thematic strands.

  • The Interdisciplinary Urban Dialogue will feature conferences, panel discussions and expert meetings designed to promote exchange between local and international stakeholders on key urban challenges and opportunities.
  • The Urban Innovation Laboratory will focus on turning innovative ideas into practical urban solutions.
  • Through the Urban Routes strand, participants will be invited to explore Baku through themed walking tours highlighting different stages of the city’s urban development and transformation.
  • The Urban Culture and Arts programme will bring artistic perspectives into the urban conversation, promoting the expression of urban themes through exhibitions, performances and cultural activities.

Connecting local experiences with global dialogue

By combining public participation, culture, innovation and professional exchange, Baku Urban Week aims to strengthen connections between local experiences and the global urban agenda ahead of WUF13.

The initiative also highlights the role of communities, public space and cultural identity in shaping more inclusive, resilient and sustainable urban futures. Through activities taking place across the city, Baku Urban Week will offer participants new ways to experience the host city while contributing to broader discussions on the future of housing and urban development.
