Global consultations shape housing call to action ahead of WUF13
The consultations brought together representatives from civil society, grassroots organizations, women, persons with disabilities, older persons, children and youth, local and regional governments, academia, the private sector, professionals and parliamentarians as part of a broader stakeholder engagement process. More than one thousand people engaged in the process, contributing perspectives on priorities, actions and key messages to be reflected in the Baku Call to Action.
Discussions highlighted the scale and urgency of the global housing crisis. Participants also pointed to rising housing costs, insecure land tenure, climate impacts and displacement as key pressures affecting cities and communities.
Stakeholders emphasized the importance of reflecting diverse local contexts in global processes. Participants underscored the role of local and regional governments, communities, and other actors in shaping and implementing responses to housing challenges.
The Baku Call to Action will serve as the main outcome of WUF13. It is intended to capture the global shared priorities for addressing housing and urban challenges. Inputs gathered through the consultations will contribute to the development of the document ahead of WUF13.
Across consultations, participants identified priorities including strengthening housing finance, improving access to land and planning tools, enhancing coordination across levels of government, and integrating climate considerations into housing strategies.
Inputs gathered will inform the development of the Baku Call to Action and are part of ongoing efforts to ensure stakeholder perspectives are reflected in global urban processes, including the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
