Benjamina Karic
Benjamina Karić was born in Sarajevo in 1991. She graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Sarajevo in 2013, and received her Master's Degree from the Faculty of Law, University of Sarajevo in 2014, focusing on the Jewish Community's legal status in BiH from 1918 to 1945. She achieved her Ph.D. in 2018 from the University of Zenica, with a dissertation on Classical Roman Law. Recognized as the youngest doctor of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina and first post-war doctor of classical Roman law, she speaks English and German proficiently and has authored over fifty publications. Notable works include "The Legal Position of the Jewish Community in BiH" and "Price (pretium) in Classical Roman Law." A member of the Social Democratic Party since 2010, she became the vice president in 2019 and was elected Mayor of Sarajevo on April 8, 2021, making her the second female mayor in the city's history. She is married and mother of a child.
