A medical doctor and epidemiologist, expert on the health impacts of public policies in urban development, transportation, energy, housing and the extractive industry. Working internationally with multi-sector initiatives for health and sustainability for over 30 years, with national governments, cities, development banks, civil society, academia, philanthropy and the UN. Previously coordinator of Environment and Health at the WHO, Geneva, now visiting Professor of Public Policies Health at UFRGS, Porto Alegre, Brazil, and Global Environmental Health at New York University. Past president International Society for Urban Health. Clinician and innovator in community health care. MSC and a PhD in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Publications cover Urban Health, Health Impact Assessment, Health Co-Benefits of interventions to adapt to and mitigate Climate Change, preventing the health impacts from Air Pollution, Risk Perceptions and Communication.
