Ekrem İmamoğlu was born in 1970 in Akçaabat, Trabzon. After graduating from Trabzon High School, he studied Civil Engineering at Eastern Mediterranean University, later transferring to Istanbul University, where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He also earned a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Management from Istanbul University. Starting his career in 1992 at the family construction business, İmamoğlu served as Chairman of the Board and held leadership roles at various sports clubs.

He joined the Republican People’s Party (CHP) in 2008 and was elected Mayor of Beylikdüzü in 2014. In 2019, he ran as CHP’s candidate for Mayor of Istanbul, winning with 54.21% of the vote after a rerun election in June. In the 2024 local elections, he was re-elected with 51.14% of the vote. On June 5, 2024, he was elected as President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB) and continues to work toward a fair, green, and creative Istanbul.
