Esther Muiru
Esther Mwaura-Muiru is a Gender, Governance, and Development expert, currently serving as the Global Advocacy Director for the Stand for Her Land (S4HL) Campaign, a global initiative advancing women's land rights, hosted by Landesa. She also co-chairs the Feminist Action Coalition on Climate Justice Commitment Makers sub-committee of Generation Equality. Previously, she was the Global Women Land Rights Manager for the International Land Coalition and served on the UN Habitat Advisory Group on Gender Issues (AGGI). Inspired by the 1995 UN Women Conference in Beijing, Esther founded GROOTS Kenya, a grassroots organization empowering women (https://grootskenya.org). She believes that sustainable progress can only be achieved when marginalized communities are central to finding long-term solutions. In 2024, Esther was nominated to the Global Gender Experts Group to contribute to the Civil Society paper commemorating Beijing+30.
