Ilkka Porttikivi is the Deputy Mayor for Urban Environment of the City of Tampere, Finland. His responsibilities include urban planning, sustainable mobility, biodiversity, public transport, waste management and climate action in one of the fastest growing cities in the Nordics. Before entering city leadership, Porttikivi worked for over 20 years in social services, youth outreach, substance abuse work and the criminal sanctions sector. This background has shaped his strong interest in social sustainability, inclusion and urban safety. At WUF13, he is particularly interested in discussions around sustainable urban growth, nature-positive cities, climate resilience, public space development and the social impacts of urban transformation. He believes cities must balance growth, environmental responsibility and human wellbeing.
