Ivan Turok
Ivan Turok holds the SA NRF Research Chair in City-Region Economies at the University of the Free State and is a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Human Sciences Research Council. He is a former Editor-in-Chief of Regional Studies and currently serves as Editor for Area Development and Policy and Development Southern Africa. An Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow, he previously chaired the City Planning Commission for Durban. With over 30 years of experience as an urban and regional economist/planner, Ivan has advised the United Nations, OECD, African Development Bank, UNECA, and the European Union. He played a key role in developing South Africa’s Integrated Urban Development Framework and contributed to the National Development Plan. Ivan has authored over 160 highly cited academic publications, journal articles, book chapters, and books.
