Matthew Robert Baldwin

Mr Baldwin is the Deputy Director-General leading the Housing Task Force of the European Commission.
He has served in the Commission for 25+ years. In Directorate-General for Energy, he was previously responsible for the Task Force phasing out Russian energy imports into the EU and in Directorate-General for Transport he ran the Commission’s Mission for 100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030. He was the EU coordinator for road safety and sustainable urban mobility and prior to that, he was Director for Aviation and Director for Market Access in Directorate-General for Trade.
He has served as Deputy Head of Cabinet to Commissioner Lamy, in the Cabinet of President Barroso and as Head of Cabinet to Commissioner Hill.
His principal professional interests are in housing, energy, transport, trade negotiation and fighting climate change. He has strong experience of working with cities in different dimensions and is a passionate believer in their capacity to deliver change for citizens.
