Mona Fawaz
I am Professor in Urban Studies and Planning at the American University of Beirut (AUB). I am also research director and co-founder of the Beirut Urban Lab, a regional research center based at AUB and invested in working towards inclusive, just, and viable cities.
My research stems from the imperative of making cities more just, addressing urbanization through the lenses of informality and the law, land, housing, property and space, and responding to the urge of informing planning theory and practice. My findings are published in scholarly articles, book sections, and reports.
I am Honorary Professor at the Department of Planning in the Bartlett School, at UCL. I have also taught as visiting professor at Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris (2022) and at The University of Basel (2021). In 2015, I was fellow at the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard University. I currently serve as editor for the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research and as board member for several journals.
