Paula Gaviria has been the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons since 2022. She serves as the executive director of Compaz, a non- profit founded by Nobel Peace Laureate Juan Manuel Santos, and has over three decades of experience promoting human rights from civil society, the judicial sector, and government.
Ms. Gaviria was a member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement (2019-2021), which worked to identify concrete recommendations on how to achieve durable solutions to the global internal displacement crisis.
Previously, she was the President of Colombia’s Human Rights Advisor (2016-2018) and directed the Victims Unit (2012-2016). Her role was key in ensuring the victims’ participation in the Peace negotiations. Previously she worked at the Ombudsperson Office of Colombia (2000-2004) and the Constitutional Court (1996- 2000).
Ms. Gaviria holds a Law degree by Universidad de los Andes (Colombia).
