Dr. Sabine Machl of Austria was appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan on 1 June 2024. She has over 28 years of experience in international organizations, including more than 15 years with the UN. Previously, she served as UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia, UN Women Representative in Indonesia and Liaison to ASEAN, and headed UN Women programmes in Palestine and Kyrgyzstan. From 2007 to 2011, she was Head of Section and Senior Adviser to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities in The Hague. Her OSCE roles also included Deputy Head of the OSCE Centre in Bishkek, Head of the Central Asia Desk in Vienna, Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Estonia, and First Secretary at the Austrian Permanent Mission. She holds two Master’s degrees and a PhD in Law from the University of Vienna and is fluent in German, English, Russian, and French.
