Sandra Cristina Pataca Carvao
Sandra Carvão has been the Director of Market Intelligence, Policies and Competitiveness at UN Tourism since 2018. Before that, she served as Chief of Communications and Publications for eight years, where she was responsible for UN Tourism’s strategic positioning.
Sandra was Deputy Chief at UN Tourism’s (formerly known as UNWTO – United Nations World Tourism Organization) Market Trends, Competitiveness and Trade in Tourism between 2007 and 2010. During this period, she coordinated the UNWTO Tourism Resilience Committee in the context of the economic crisis of 2008-2009.
Prior to joining UNWTO in 2003, Sandra was a market manager at the Portuguese National Tourist Office in Lisbon. She holds a degree in International Relations, Economics Branch, from the Instituto de Ciências Sociais e Políticas/Universidade Técnica de Lisboa and a postgraduate degree in Marketing from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
