Summary

The event, hosted by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (UKFCDO), and supported by co-hosts, UKFCDO local Country Offices, UK Built Environment Advisory Group (UKBEAG) and UN-Habitat’s Urban Lab will bring together partners from multiple sectors, including international donor, international organisations, private, academic and City Authorities to share insights and lessons learnt around multi-partnered, cross-cutting programmes and projects. Focusing on the Global Future Cities Programme, the event will be a demonstration of the UK’s commitment and contribution to global sustainable urban development, advancing prosperity in emerging economies, and its commitment to peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing of best practices. Partners will also discuss outcomes and their opportunities for achieving transformative urban development aligned with the SDGs at a local level, whilst connecting to global urban agendas and ambitions. The event will highlight some of the innovative concepts, methodologies, and outcomes of the UK’s partnerships with UN-Habitat and private sector and academic actors and will include a showcase of the successes of such partnerships to achieve the SDG’s and global urban agendas. The event aims to also demonstrate the opportunities of addressing cross-cutting themes and its impact on achieving holistic sustainable urban development, with a specific focus on the pillars of urban planning, mobility, climate action and resilience, and data.

Objectives

• To share ideas and showcase the opportunities created through multi-partnered, multi-staged programs, and to strengthen cross-sectoral partnerships for such approaches • To build knowledge by demonstrating best practices for transformative urban development and SDG localisation • To identify practical and innovative solutions to advance the sustainable urbanisation agenda and address the challenges of human settlements around the world, whilst advancing gender equity, social inclusion, human rights, environmental, social and economic prosperity. • Specific focus will be given to showcasing the work that has been completed through the Global Future Cities Programme and the relationships that it has built to cohesively address key features of: 1. Multi-partner / multi-stakeholder and multi-sectoral structuring of global programs 2. Cross-cutting thematic framing of programs 3. Capacity Building and Peer-to-Peer learning 4. SDG Project Assessment Tool and SDG Profiling 5. Leadership and Change Management The attendees will have an opportunity to engage with the programme stakeholders and partners to get insights around these key features and have tailored discussions on takeaways.
