Circular Economy Approaches for Construction and Demolition Waste to Catalyse Affordable Housing in Low-Income Countries.

The event will highlight how circular economy practices in Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste management reduce costs, accelerate housing delivery, improve environmental performance, and build resilient supply chains for affordable housing in low-income countries. In this session, practical tools, policy levers, and monitoring approaches will be shared for C&D waste segregation, logistics, processing, and end market linkages to affordable housing projects. Indian experience under resource efficiency initiatives shows the value of structured training, standards, indicators, and sectoral strategies to drive adoption. Regulatory Readiness through Environment (Construction and Demolition) Waste Management Rules, 2025 and Policy Integration strategies with Clean India Mission promote the transition from waste disposal to a circular model that mandates recycling targets and material reuse in high-scale projects- public as well as private. Applications of Construction and Demolition (C&D) processed products offer a sustainable and cost-effective alternative for Affordable Housing Projects. By repurposing materials like concrete, brick, and timber, these projects can significantly reduce their environmental footprint and overall construction costs.
