Summary

Anchored in the launch of the UAE’s first Green Innovation District at Expo City Dubai, this session will explore how specialised innovation districts can serve as replicable models for advancing sustainable growth and as new engines of a more resilient global economy. Participants will gain insight into how such districts operate as living laboratories for sustainable urban and industrial development by integrating sustainable housing solutions, supporting clean energy and green technology enterprises, shaping environmentally responsible built environments, and fostering resilient residential and community spaces that enhance quality of life. Grounded in lessons learned from practical delivery on the ground, this session will examine the enabling role of strategic policy frameworks, including green licensing and intellectual property roadmaps, alongside innovative financing mechanisms and collaborative governance models. The discussion will highlight how governments, financial institutions, and private-sector innovators can co-create integrated ecosystems that align economic growth with climate action and social inclusion, while remaining commercially viable and scalable across diverse urban contexts offering concrete, practical, and experience-based insights and transferable lessons learned for cities facing similar constraints and ambitions worldwide.
