Resilient Housing in Informal Settlements Scalable Solutions for the Climate-Poverty Nexus

In Latin America and the Caribbean, over 100 million people live in informal settlements, facing a triple threat: precarious housing, lack of basic services, and high vulnerability to climate change. This session, led by TECHO in the framework of the Roof Over Our Heads (ROOH) campaign and the Race to Resilience, showcases concrete, community-driven solutions to improve housing conditions in these territories. The event will transition from theoretical frameworks to practical "SDGs in Action." We will demonstrate how modular social housing and community infrastructure projects, implemented by TECHO and other partners, including SPARC, act as tangible accelerators for SDGs 11, 1, and 13. By highlighting the lived experiences of community leaders and the scalability of our "Resilient Housing" model, we provide a roadmap for transforming informal settlements into safe, sustainable, and dignified urban spaces. Participants will explore: The ROOH Approach: How community-led labs identify local climate risks and design tailored housing upgrades. Impact Data: Evidence on how emergency and permanent housing solutions reduce poverty (SDG 1) and increase climate adaptability (SDG 13). Multi-stakeholder Collaboration: How partnerships between NGOs, the private sector, and local governments can replicate these models at a regional scale. This interactive session aims to move beyond diagnosis toward the "how-to" of urban resilience, offering participants a toolkit of proven interventions that can be adapted to informal contexts globally.
