Urban Solutions Journalism Academy at WUF13: Training for Journalists

Journalists and members of the press are invited to this free, interactive training in urban solutions journalism, a constructive way of telling stories about what works in cities. Run by journalist Laura Puttkamer, the workshop introduces the principles and practices of solutions journalism. It is designed to help participants move beyond problem-focused reporting and towards rigorous, evidence-based storytelling that highlights how urban challenges are being addressed without losing critical depth. The workshop follows the tradition of the Urban Journalism Academy, which was held at HABITAT III and European Habitat in 2016.

By the end of the workshop, participants will understand the core principles of solutions journalism and how to apply them to urban contexts. They will learn to structure an urban solutions story using the four pillars (response, evidence, limitations, insights), strengthen critical thinking and rigorous reporting skills, and develop clear, compelling pitches for stories about sustainable, inclusive, and resilient cities that can be applied directly in their professional work.
