WUF13 preparations accelerate as Member States briefed in Nairobi
UN-Habitat presented the latest updates on the Forum’s programme, governance and expected outcomes. Member States noted the importance of WUF13 as a platform to advance sustainable urban development, including the review of SDG 11 and the New Urban Agenda ahead of its tenth anniversary.
A dedicated diplomatic session with Nairobi-based embassies provided further details on how countries can engage across the Forum’s different participation tracks. The briefing follows an earlier session held in Baku and forms part of ongoing outreach to ensure broad and early engagement.
UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach and Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan and WUF13 National Coordinator, also led the first international media briefing for WUF13. Journalists from international, regional and local outlets were introduced to the Forum’s theme and the key milestones on the road to Baku.
Throughout the week, delegates received practical information on registration timelines, partner-led events and opportunities for Member State and stakeholder participation.
The Government of Azerbaijan additionally hosted a reception on the margins of the UN-Habitat Executive Board, encouraging countries to take an active role in shaping WUF13 and reaffirming its commitment to delivering an inclusive Forum in May 2026.
The Nairobi engagements form part of a series of global outreach activities as preparations intensify and momentum builds towards WUF13 in Baku.
